About

My name is Ashley E. Messick.

I grew up in College Station, Texas. I raised a lamb named Jazzy who we put in diapers and drove around in our minivan. I was class president two years in a row. I once voted for Rick Perry.

After moving to Houston in high school I managed to find my way to the motherland, aka Austin, Texas, for college at the University of Texas. It is there that I found my love for football, liberals, being a vegetarian, and beer. I then voted for John Kerry.

Ten days after graduating I moved to San Francisco without a job, place to live, or plan. The plan found me and I wound up working first for a nonprofit consulting firm and then for a medium-sized nonprofit. It was in San Francisco that I fell head over heels for changemakers, social media, flaming liberals, and wine. I of course voted for Barack Obama.

After a big life change I ran away from California, traveled for awhile, and then found myself back in Houston, Texas. Again without a job, place to live, or a plan. I have learned by now that life plans itself.

This blog chronicles my life, my personal musings, my ability to piss off my mother with a simple blog post, and my obsession with technology and social media for nonprofits. I’m a geek.

I love laughter, social change, and most importantly my dog Glory.
